Citibank is increasing its donation this year to include our veterans!  This contribution supports Building Self Sufficient Families”(BSSF) — financial capability/asset building workshops that Citibank puts on for our families and will now offer at College of the Canyons for the vets through  “Banking Boot Camp” workshops for veterans and their families. Our very own Habitat home recipient, Ken Scherer, was on the Dr. Drew show which aired on the HLN station both December 16th and January 2nd. Ken Scherer was invited to speak about PTSD and what Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV is doing to help veterans suffering from PTSD or other service related injuries and hardships. He spoke alongside Grey’s Anatomy star, Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, a veteran suffering from PTSD.

Santa Clarita, Calif., Nov. 7, 2011 — On November 5, more than 200 volunteers, community leaders, celebrities and others helped a local veteran and his family rehabilitate their home and celebrate the launch of a new program aimed at improving living conditions and providing suitable housing for veterans.

The event was part of the public launch of SCV Habitat for Heroes.  The program is an effort by Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys (SF/SCV)
