This month Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV would like to recognize two outstanding volunteers who spend many hours volunteering at all of our construction sites: Ed Sheanin and Wayne Thiele! Ed has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV for over four years. Ed’s hobby has been do-it-yourself activities since he was a teenager. When he retired after years of being a teacher he wanted to help others while still doing what he loves. Habitat for Humanity was the perfect fit. Ed is a regular Team Leader at corporate TEAMBuild days at our new construction sites, Critical Home Repair/Disability Modifications, and special events. He says that volunteering for Habitat for Humanity is “rewarding”. He loves the camaraderie that develops between himself and the volunteers … Read More …

The Ahmanson Foundation has provided funding to Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys at the full House level to the Sylmar Habitat for Heroes “Enriched Neighborhood” site. This funding will make housing affordable for a veteran family in the 12-home community in Sylmar. One of the veterans moving into this community, built in collaboration with the California Department of Veteran Affairs, is Walter Sanchez. Walter currently lives with his wife, Yazmin and two children under the age of four in his mother’s basement. Walter is a U.S. Army veteran and served one tour in Iraq. Walter now works full time, and his wife stays home to take care of the children. He would like an opportunity to give his … Read More …

Women use hammers, power tools and paintbrushes to help veterans By Michele E. Buttelman Signal Features and Entertainment Editor The Women Empowerment Build for Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys attracted a sold-out crowd Saturday. Chairwoman Cheri Fleming said the event also exceeded fundraising expectations. “We had a goal to raise $40,000 and we raised just under $46,000,” she said. Fleming described the experience as “empowering.” “It was a great hands-on experience,” Fleming said. “We got to use our hands and build elements of this veterans community that will be built here in the Santa Clarita Valley.” Participants built elements that will be used in the 87-home veterans community to be constructed off Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa … Read More …

From PaulJWillet.com – We Love The Stars Too Much By: momdude See origional post here Ronnie is on the Board of Directors for the local Habitat For Humanity organization. Today they had their annual Women’s Empowerment (WE) Build in which they had a lot of homebuilding-related construction activity set up to allow women to get out there and hammer, saw, assemble, build, and paint. It was a big gathering at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, nearly 250 volunteers strong, building fencing panels, fence gates, garden planter boxes, and more for the homes that Habitat is building for low-income veterans and their families. We all started the day (after getting our shirts and pink hard hats) with some breakfast, speeches … Read More …
