July – Volunteer of the Month!


This month we would like to recognize an outstanding ReStore volunteer: Matt Maher. Matt started volunteering a few months ago, he comes to the store three to four days a week and assists on the sales floor, in the warehouse, and as a truck driver assistant on the truck that picks up donations. Matt heard about the Habitat for Humanity ReStore through the Pierce College Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter club, where he is a member. Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ ReStore in Chatsworth is celebrating its’ first birthday with a ‘Buy one, Give One Sale’ on Saturday, June 29th. To celebrate one year of raising funds to build homes for veterans, the Habitat ReStore is offering customers a special offer on June 29th. Customers who purchase select home furniture items will ‘buy one’ for themselves and the Habitat ReStore will ‘give one’ to one of the 100 veteran families moving into Habitat homes in North Los Angeles County. Homeownership Possible for Low-Income Veteran Families


Growing up, Jose C. always wondered what living in a home, instead of an apartment, would feel like. He joined the Marine Corps in 2006 to provide a better life for his family, hoping to one day have a chance to own a home for himself and his son to live in. After serving two deployments in Iraq, Jose came home to a junior one bedroom apartment that he shared with his mother and son.  Jose spent most of 2012 trying to apply for home loans through the VA, but there was no outcome and at the end of the year he was still living in the small space with his mother and son. June – Volunteers of the Month!


This month Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV would like to recognize two outstanding volunteers who spend many hours volunteering at all of our construction sites: Ed Sheanin and Wayne Thiele! Ed has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV for over four years. Ed’s hobby has been do-it-yourself activities since he was a teenager. When he retired after years of being a teacher he wanted to help others while still doing what he loves. Habitat for Humanity was the perfect fit. Ed is a regular Team Leader at corporate TEAMBuild days at our new construction sites, Critical Home Repair/Disability Modifications, and special events.
